Why Do Hackers Hack?

Now that is a very good question, really it is! But intriguing it is not! What’s in it for hackers, both for professionals or otherwise? Well to be truthfully blunt about it, it is about money and the power one holds on the company or persons one has successfully hacked! For the money part, there are lots and lots of it in the hacking business! Considering the many inconveniences the hacker can invariably have done to the company and business, they are certainly held at bay so they would naturally want to get out of that fix right away, while for those individuals whose accounts are compromised its more on the secrecy and privacy of their personal information involved in the hacking. So paying these hackers right away would be in an organization’s line of thinking would be the easiest way out of this troublesome situation so much so that they could go back to their business as soon as they can possibly can.

It is very frightening to say the least that even in this modern times and age hacking incidences have increased and continue to be an inconvenient everyday occurrence. Hacking has become even more exasperating and disruptive than phishing and unwanted online advertising out in the worldwide web.

First of what is Hacking? Hacking in layman’s terms is identifying weaknesses in computer systems or networks to exploit it to gain access to the computer or a company website to gain important business information since computers have become compulsory in running a successful business. Hacking uses computers to commit fraudulent acts such as fraud, privacy invasion and stealing business and personal data. And, today it is not enough to have out-of-the-way computers systems; it needs to be networked to facilitate communication with personnel and with external businesses. This exposes these businesses to the outside world and hacking. Cybercrimes have cost many organizations millions of dollars every year that is why businesses need to protect themselves against such attacks. Cybercrime is the use of computers and its network to perform illegal activities such as spreading computer viruses, online bullying or performing unauthorized electronic bank fund transfers. Remember that a lot of cybercrimes are committed through the internet. Some cybercrimes can even be easily carried out using Mobile phones via SMS and online chatting applications.

Hackers are a real worrisome security threat to a business and it is an everyday business risk which can potentially harm computer systems and organizations. These hackers can cause incidents that could result in the loss or corruption of systems data, disrupt the business operations that rely on computer systems and the loss of sensitive information and illegal monitoring of activities on computers. A Hacker is a person who is usually a highly skilled computer programmer with extensive knowledge of computer security. He finds and exploits the weaknesses in computer systems and/or networks to gain access.

Why would a hacker hack? For most it offers them a sense of false power and control plus the promise of money as ransom over the business one has hacked and for others it’s just for fun and a game that they need to do.
